Biography
At age
20 Quinne Brown’s life changed. She was chosen for the role as
Connie v d Lecq in the popular soap opera, 7de Laan on SABC2. For
five years, starring as Connie became a way of life - coping with
the grueling schedule of the soap world, she loved every minute of
learning from the masters.
While
acting in 7de Laan, she focused on “skilling up” for the world of
acting, in which she found herselftaking classes with tutors, the
like of David Dennis and Annie Basson. She also became a member of
the Actors Centre at the Civic in Johannesburg, South Africa, where
she took numerous classes with different teachers, improving her
skills as actress, presenter and speaker.
Before
Quinne took up a career in acting, she was studying Geography and
Anthropology at the University of Johannesburg and also spent time
abroad traveling and working as a waitress and an event manager.
During her a year in the UK, Quinne qualified as a groom and trainer
with the British Horse Society.
Her
love for traveling did not end, however, and while working at 7de
Laan she managed to travel to a new destination every year.
Adventure Highlights:
-
In
2000 she became a volunteer on Project Noah, which was the
relocation of 15 elephant from Madikwe Game Reserve across the
Angolan border to the Quicama Reserve. FC Hamman Films made a
documentary for Discovery Channel and Quinne was used as
commentator on the program.
-
In
2001, Quinne had the opportunity to travel to India for two
weeks, visiting the Taj Mahal in Agra, Delhi and Mumbai.
-
In
2002 she decided to explore her own country and traveled the
coast from the east to the west.
-
2003 brought more of Africa, and she traveled to Botswana and
Zambia.
-
During 2004 she made a trip to the Americas and traveled along
the coast of California, visiting Texas and Mexico
-
During 2006 she and her husband undertook a nine month overland
safari through Africa and the USA.
During
the five years as a soap actress, Quinne became involved in South
Africa’s transformation process through her work with various
charities and her public appearances. These included promotional
appearances for 7deLaan, facilitating shows, and working both as an
MC and as a public speaker at a variety of charity fundraisers and
shows throughout South Africa.
The
year 2004 was filled with exiting challenges. Amongst others, she
performed in a number of music videos for local artists including
Klopjag and Vusi Moholo. Another highlight was her debut on stage in
the theater production “Hartsondes” with Henry Mylne as director for
the Klein Karoo National Arts Festival.
The
decision to leave the 7de Laan set was not an easy step for her.
However, with her versatility and her interest in different media
and genres within the industry, it was time to move on. During 2005
she worked as a presenter and also did work for the popular magazine
show “Pasella”.
The
highlight of that year was undoubtedly “Ouma se slim kind” with
Southern Sky Pictures, and having the opportunity to work with
director Gustav Kuhn and seasoned actors such as Annalise Bosch and
Dawid Minnaar. “It was an incredible learning experience,” said
Quinne. She was nominated as best supporting actress for her
performance in this ground breaking film.
Another
life changing highlight was Quinne’s engagement during this time and
her travels back and forth across the oceans from California to
Johannesburg. She came back in November 2005 to perform in the play
“Homebound,” written and directed by Diaan Lawrenson. This
successful play ran on stage in Kalk Bay, Capetown. In
February of 2006 she and Ryan Huffman, an American entrepreneur,
married and they spend the rest of the year traveling Southern
Africa and the Southwest of America.
Quinne
is now settled in San Francisco, where she is currently pursuing her
acting career. Performing on stage in Neil Simons “The Good Dr”
directed by Dr Rick Homan. And also working as voice over artist and
starring in many short and independent films.
She is
ready to share some of her experience and love for the craft and art
of acting with kids and using it as the healing and inspiring art
she has come to know it as.
